Romancing the Known

I’m back on schedule on a Thursday after last week’s delay. What a concept!

To probably no one’s surprise, after the big push to finish the erotica novel, I’ve taken things slow with the romance for this month’s entry in 12 Months, 12 Genres 2 (Electric Novel-oo). This is both in terms of how little I’ve written and the progress of the romance itself. But it’s the 9th, so I’m not worried yet.

I think last month definitely highlighted that I really do the best when I have a deadline, as if I hadn’t learned that lesson with all the years of Nano under my belt. But just like the last time I did this multi-month marathon of novels in varying genres, when I make that big push at the end of one month, it’s hard to get motivated to dive in right away in the next.

The logical step would be to get caught up by the middle of the month, and then stay on pace until the end, so I’m not burnt out and wish to take it slow with the next story. That’s all well and good in theory, but in practice, it’s more difficult. I take solace in the fact that I’ve written every day this year, and hope to do so, even during vacations (which, despite the time of year, we’re already planning).

I can’t spend my time in a tent or hotel room on the last day of a month typing up several thousands of words to finish on time, so I have to break this cycle somehow. I guess we’ll see if by next week I’ve managed to do so.

But until then, I’ll take these two characters who served as background in previous stories, and see how their love develops. And to think that they’ll discover it by an encounter at an orgy.
