Booking It

Last time I told you I was being published. In the intervening time, I’ve gotten links from the publisher of how you can purchase the anthology, should you wish to do so, but have I remembered to log on and post that information? No. (Or, at least, I haven’t remembered when I wasn’t heading to bed, which amounts to the same thing.)

Anyone looking for the ebook version, I direct you here: https://www.lakeshoreliterary.com/product/surface-reflections-epub

For those of you who like the physical copy, you can get that here: https://www.lakeshoreliterary.com/product/surface-reflections

But that’s not all the insight I have to share today, if you’ll indulge one quick snippet of reflection.

Today I got the feedback for the latest round of the writing contest, after this morning seeing the rankings and finding I didn’t make the cut to move to the next round. That bummed me, but based on the notes from this piece, combined with the critiques (and rankings) of stuff from the past, I think I’ve hit on the fact that I might need at least 2,000 words to tell a story well. That’s not to say that I haven’t written decent stories that were shorter. And I acknowledge that if I have more time to work on something, naturally, it will have the potential to be better. But realistically, based on my current skill level, I think at least 2K is required.

Maybe that has to do with my experience with Nano making me used to have the room to build up and then resolve. I don’t know. I’ll think on that. As we approach another November, and next year’s 12 Months, 12 Genres, I know that long-form pieces will be more on my mind, and for the time being, I don’t have plans to work too much on shorter stuff. I guess we’ll see from where I choose my future writing group submissions.

If you’ve read this far, don’t be a jerk. Buy the anthology. Thank you.
